Hello readers! My name is Raymond Velez, founder at SommerAI. We are currently developing a therapist that uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), Solution Focused Behavioral Therapy (SFBT), Retroactive Resolution Therapy (RRT). Currently we have a very simple prototype for SFBT but will be working hard to improve it and be more personal since currently it is very focused on using GPT-4.

SommerAI: Your Mental Health Companion

The following are things we want to develop with SommerAI.

How AI is better.

  1. Ability to process vast amounts of data: AI can process vast amounts of data in real-time, including a patient's medical history, symptoms, and responses to therapy. This data can be used to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to the patient's needs.
  2. Detection of patterns and correlations: AI can detect patterns and correlations that may not be apparent to a human therapist. By analyzing vast amounts of data, an AI therapist could identify trends in a patient's behavior, symptoms, and responses to treatment that may be missed by a human therapist.
  3. Lack of bias: Human therapists may have biases or preconceived notions that could influence their perception of a patient or their treatment recommendations. AI, on the other hand, is not subject to the same biases and can make treatment recommendations based solely on data and evidence.
  4. Ability to provide consistent care: Human therapists may have good days and bad days, which could impact the care they provide. AI, on the other hand, can provide consistent care 24/7, ensuring that patients receive the same level of care at all times.
  5. Personalization: AI can be programmed to adapt to individual patient needs and preferences, including language, tone, and cultural background. This personalization can help build trust and rapport with patients, leading to better outcomes.

How Humans are better (for now).

  1. Emotional intelligence: Humans are naturally equipped with emotional intelligence, which allows them to read and interpret subtle emotional cues that may not be detected by an AI therapist. They can use this insight to adapt their therapeutic approach to better address the patient's needs.
  2. Intuition and empathy: Humans have a natural ability to empathize with others, to sense their emotions and experiences, and to respond with compassion and understanding. An AI therapist, on the other hand, relies solely on their training data and may not be able to replicate the same level of intuition and empathy.
  3. Personal experiences: Human therapists often have personal experiences that they can draw upon to help patients. For example, if a therapist has experienced a similar situation to the patient, they may be better equipped to provide personalized support and advice.
  4. Flexibility: Human therapists are flexible in their approach, and can adjust their therapeutic style based on a patient's unique needs and personality. An AI therapist, on the other hand, is limited by its programming and may not be able to provide the same level of flexibility in its therapeutic approach.
  5. Nonverbal communication: Humans rely on nonverbal communication, such as body language and facial expressions, to understand others. While an AI therapist may be able to recognize and respond to some nonverbal cues, it may not be as accurate or nuanced as a human therapist's interpretation.

How AI can be more Human.

  1. Incorporating machine learning algorithms: By analyzing large amounts of data and recognizing patterns in human behavior, an AI therapist can develop an understanding of emotions, behaviors, and experiences that can be used to improve emotional intelligence and empathy.
